Arrested for a DWI on Halloween?

Increase in Law Enforcement Over Halloween Weekend

From Saturday, October 29 through Tuesday, November 1, expect to see an increase in New York State Police and other law enforcement agencies. Due to the number of DWI related accidents and fatalities that happen each year during Halloween weekend according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, Governor Andrew Cuomo has required an increase in law enforcement.

Halloween DWI

This effort is intended to deter drunk driving and is a part of New York’s Traffic Safety Committee and STOP-DWI program. Not only will there be an increase in the number of patrols, but there will also be more sobriety checkpoints and police on the lookout for establishments and people selling alcohol to minors.

What to Do If You Were Arrested

Unfortunately, with this level of aggressive watchfulness by law enforcement, innocent people can get caught in the crosshairs. At Musa-Obregon Law PC, we recognize that law enforcement can become overzealous during holiday weekends like Halloween.

Additionally, we recognize that law officers must follow certain protocol in order to even pull you over for a DWI, search your car or establishment, and arrest you. During an arrest, they must also follow a certain set of procedures in order for it to be considered lawful. We can investigate your case and create a solid defense strategy that makes sure your rights are protected above all else.

Call our NYC and Queens DWI defense attorney for the help you need if you were arrested at any point during Halloween weekend.
