New York Woman Marries 10 Men in Immigration Ploy

A Bronx woman recently pled not guilty at the State Supreme Court to two charges of offering a false instrument for filing in the first degree. She is accused of having married multiple men as part of an immigration scam, as many as nine marriages within 1999 and 2002 all in either Westchester County, Long Island, New Jersey, or the Bronx.

Although it is unknown whether the husbands will be charged, it is thought by the prosecution that the husbands would file for permanent resident status just after the marriages and would then divorce the woman after they were approved. Several of the men had even hailed from “red-flagged” counties such as Egypt, Turkey, Georgia, Pakistan, and Mali.

The woman faces up to four years in prison if convicted and is expected to be in court on May 18.
